Board Games

Board Game Library: Open Play

All Weekend · Free
Step into the Free Play Room and explore a library of over 200 board and card games, from classics to brand-new releases. Grab a game, gather friends, and play at your own pace. The library is sponsored by Level One Game Shop, Mindgames & Magic, and Pawn & Pint.

You will need a photo ID to check out a board game. Please visit us in the Tabletop Gaming Room with any questions regarding check-out policies.

Play & Take Board Games

All Weekend · Free
Learn featured board games with help from knowledgeable staff and volunteers, then enter for a chance to take them home. Winners will be announced Sunday at 1:00 PM. If you are a selected winner and unable to pick-up on Sunday, games will be held at Level One Game Shop for two weeks. Arrangements for shipping can also be made. An additional cost will be incurred.

Japanese Board Game Center: Learn & Play

All Weekend · Free
Interested in Japanese board games? Visit the Tabletop Gaming Room to learn and play a curated selection of titles imported directly from Japan. Sessions are designed for all ages and experience levels, with staff available to teach rules, answer questions, and help players jump into games quickly. Featured games include Jisogi, Trickarus, Dobutsu Shogi, and Kiri-Ai: The Duel, offering a mix of accessible family games and deeper strategy experiences.

Commander Command Zone

Step into the Command Zone for open-play Commander all weekend long. Tables are organized by preferred playstyle—Social, Challenging, or Competitive—so players can find the right fit for their group. Library decks are available to borrow, and Commander preconstructed decks are available for purchase on site.

Learn to Play: Magic: The Gathering

All Weekend · Free
Stop by the Level One Game Shop booth to learn Magic using prebuilt constructed decks. Staff and volunteers walk players through the basics of turn structure, combat, and card interactions in a friendly, low-pressure setting. Participants receive a free promo card just for learning.

Jumpstart Event

All Weekend · On Demand · $15 per player
Mindgames and Magic hosts fast, casual head-to-head matches using Jumpstart packs. When two players sign up, they shuffle two packs together and begin playing immediately—no deckbuilding required. The winner receives a standard pack of their choice. Events fire as soon as two players are ready, making this a true drop-in experience.

Learn to Play: Pokémon Trading Card Game

All Weekend · Free · Ages 6+
Become the very best by learning the Pokémon Trading Card Game with help from Level One Game Shop staff and volunteers. Players are taught the basic rules and gameplay flow in a child-friendly environment. Participants earn a promo card just for learning.

Pokémon Model Kit Building

Get introduced to model kit building with a guided Pokémon kit session. The ticket price includes your choice of Pokémon model and staff assistance throughout the build process.

One Piece Card Game: Learn to Play

Learn the fundamentals of the One Piece Card Game with guided instruction from Level One Game Shop staff and volunteers. Participants receive a promo card for learning.

Gundam TCG: Learn to Play

Learn the basics of the Gundam Trading Card Game in staff-led demo sessions from Level One Game Shop. Promo cards are awarded for participation.

Gundam Model Kit Building

Build your first Gunpla with step-by-step guidance from experienced hobbyists from Level One Game Shop. The ticket includes a Gundam model kit and instruction covering assembly techniques and hobby fundamentals.

Flesh and Blood: Learn to Play

Mindgames and Magic hosts Learn to Play: Flesh and Blood, introducing players to one of tabletop’s most skill-driven competitive card games. Guided instruction covers core mechanics, turn structure, and strategic fundamentals in a welcoming, low-pressure environment. Sessions run continuously, and no prior experience or materials are required.

Mindgames and Magic offers guided tabletop demos of Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Kill Team, Marvel Crisis Protocol. These hands-on sessions introduce gameplay flow and core mechanics across both large-scale battles and fast-paced skirmishes. All miniatures, terrain, and rules are provided.

BattleTech

All Weekend · Free
Presented by Catalyst Game Labs and Pawn & Pint, BattleTech returns with a full weekend of Classic BattleTech and Alpha Strike demos. Sessions are led by members of the Catalyst Demo Team, with all miniatures, dice, and rulebooks provided. Players can join learn-to-play demos, smaller skirmishes, or a massive ongoing BattleTech Grinder, a continuous free-for-all scenario running throughout the weekend.

Miniatures Paint ’n’ Take Station

All Weekend · Donations Accepted
Take a break from the con floor and paint a miniature to take home. Guests choose from fantasy, sci-fi, or historical miniatures, with paints, brushes, and guidance provided by experienced painters. This is a charity event benefiting Extra Life. Donations support the purchase of games and puzzles for hospitalized children in Kansas City.

Additionally, we’ll have an adult coloring station featuring your favorite anime and manga characters ready to be personalized and customized. Supplies including colored pencils, acrylic paint pallets and coloring sheets will be provided for your enjoyment.

Heroes wanted! Join open tables for Dungeons & Dragons 5E, Daggerheart, Pathfinder 2E, and more. Players check in at Hero Headquarters, where the Quest Board lists available games. Sessions average two to three hours, and all supplies are provided.

Pathfinder & Starfinder RPGs with Paizo Organized Play

Explore the fantasy world of Golarion in the Second Edition of the Pathfinder roleplaying game, or jump a few millennia into the future to the science-fantasy galaxy of Starfinder–now upgraded to a matching new Second Edition of its own, using the same base rules! Check in at our Headquarters, just outside the Roleplaying room. Sessions run on the hour, starting an hour after the gates drop, and last 2 ½ to 3 hours. No supplies or prior experience necessary!

Level One Game Shop

Stop by the Level One Game Shop booth in the Tabletop Gaming Room for games, supplies, and gifts across a wide range of tabletop hobbies. The booth features the latest releases for Magic: The Gathering, tabletop roleplaying games, and accessories including dice, journals, and indie RPGs. If you try a demo of any Bandai card games, staff can help you find everything you need to build your next deck or expand your collection. Level One also carries imported board games from Japan and a variety of pop-culture items perfect for gifts or collectors.

Mindgames and Magic

Mindgames and Magic is your source for all things Cards, Comics, Games and More! Mindgames and Magicsupports tabletop programming throughout the weekend and offers a wide selection of TCGs, tabletop wargames, board games, accessories, and event support at their booth.

Pawn & Pint

The Pawn and Pint booth will feature both DragonClaw ChainMaille and Jedi Lizzy’s Geek Boutique. We’ll be vending handmade chainmaille items, premium dice sets, collectible fandom pins, and information about attending or hosting events at Kansas City’s Boardgame Tavern.
